Don't surf? That's okay. Surf Church Porto isn't a church only for surfers. It's a family for people who want to walk with Jesus, with or without a board.
It's normal for the name to raise that question. When someone hears “Surf Church”, they might imagine they need to know how to surf, go to the beach or belong to a specific culture to feel at home. But the truth is simpler: surfing is part of our story; it isn't the requirement to belong.
The beach can open the conversation. Jesus is the one who gathers the family.
Surfing is a bridge, not a closed door
For many people, the beach is a less intimidating place than a traditional church. It's a space where conversations start more naturally. A surf session can bring together people who might never have walked into a service on their own.
But the journey of Surf Church Porto doesn't stay on the sand. The journey runs through the table, the Bible, worship, Havruta, service, prayer and shared life.
Who finds a place here?
Surfers find a place here. Non-surfers too. People who grew up in church and people who are slowly coming back. Locals, internationals, students, families, young professionals, children, newcomers to Porto and people who just want to ask an honest question about faith.
What unites us isn't your surfing level. What unites us is Jesus.
What a Sunday at Surf Church Porto is like
On Sundays, the community shares moments of gathering, fellowship, the Bible and worship. The confirmed Sunday hours are 5:30–9:00 PM. If it's your first visit, we recommend messaging beforehand to receive directions, context and a Welcome team contact.
What if I don't know anyone?
You can arrive without knowing anyone. This is one of the reasons the Welcome team exists: to help those who arrive, guide the first visit, explain the language, point out where to be and answer simple questions.
You don't need to walk in already knowing the songs, people's names or the routine. You can arrive, watch, chat or just be present.
A community, not a club
Surf Church Porto isn't a surf club with a religious message on top. Nor is it a church that uses the beach as a backdrop to look different. It's a Christian community that was born close to surf culture and learned to turn that bridge into family, discipleship and mission.
So, if you don't surf, the answer is still the same: there's a place for you.
